Session export: A New Flight Path

Evelyn waited at the coffee shop. Matcha had plenty of time, she’s just a woman that gets to appointments insanely early. Evelyn took a sip from her caf while watching people go by. One of her favorite things was people watching. Her thumb went over to her ring finger on her left hand as she played with the ring for a moment. It was still so odd. To be married first and then slowly get to know each other.

She cleared her throat and took another sip before setting it down. The other Siren Squad rather stay with the military but she had heard that Matcha was no longer part of it. She hoped this meeting would go well and she can gain a co-pilot. Match was talented and honestly? Better at people than Evelyn. <@301514304845381632>

Usually Matcha wasn’t one for punctuality, often showing up for things late. But Evelyn was one of the few she made an exception for on that rule.

Even though she tried, Matcha still managed to be a minute late as she pushed through the door to the cafe and searched around for Evelyn. The moment the Mirialan spotted her friend, she walked straight over, taking a seat in front of her. “Long time no see, Evelyn.”

Evelyn didn’t realized she wasn’t paying attention until she heard her name and glanced up to Matcha, who was already sitting down.

The ‘time loss’ startled her but she didn’t show it.

“Hello, Matcha.” She started to feel awkward and cleared her throat. She was never good with social situations. Perhaps it was good to be straight to the point.

“Matcha, I had joined Envoy Corps and would like to hire a crew as my personal crew. You can be part of the Corps as well or just part of the personal team.”

Evelyn’s short answer wasn’t something unexpected for the woman, in fact it was par for the course when it came to the average interaction with her former captain.

Her celadon fingers drummed along the tabletop, her nerves starting to show. She wasn’t too much a fan of an awkward silence when suspense was involved, so when Evelyn opened with a job offer, Marzy couldn’t hide her surprise.

“You want me?”

“Yes. You have the skills of an ACE pilot and the ability. You have very good gut instinct that I like seeing. Why do you think I hate droid brains?”

Thirteen beeped in protest against Evelyn behind her as it rolled around to between them and beeped a hello to Matcha before angrily talking to Evelyn in binary.

“Let me rephrase, Thirteen. Sometimes, a feeling and a non-logical decision can save lives and get out in a tricky situations during hyperdrive. Droid brain like yours does not do that.” She tapped Thirteen on the head as it let out a long flat-line sounding beep in dismay before becoming quiet. Evelyn glanced back to Matcha with a small and rare smile before it was gone.

“It is also an offer that you are free to decline.”

Matcha’s heart warmed thanks to the woman’s compliment. An ace pilot. That’s never how the Mirialan would describe herself but the fact a woman who was arguably a better pilot than her saw her as someone that skilled meant quite a bit to her.

“Seeing as I’m currently living off of my savings account, i wouldn’t mind another job. I hate to ask since you’re a friend but… How much will it pay?”

“You do not have to be ashamed to ask me. Well, since we will not have stable hours, of course, I will try to accommodate all of us, I rather to do yearly salary which is eighty thousand credits per year. If you or any of the crew members happen to go over in the hours during the week, you will be paid overtime.”

Evelyn paused for a moment before, “Do you also happen to know another pilot? I want to hire one more. That way if you are unable, I can call upon them or if there comes a situation where all three of us would be needed.”

“That works for me,” Matcha said, a smile on her face. The idea of getting to work with one of her friends again was fantastic news.

“I do know another pilot, I’ve actually been chatting with her a bit… But she’s… An interesting character. She’s capable and skilled, but I dunno how you’ll get along with her.”

Evelyn’s eyebrow raised at the word interesting. She doesn’t know Matcha well, yet, but she knew her enough to know that if she was going to call someone interesting, they were… interesting.

“Capable and skilled should be enough for me. I usually do not mind boisterous personalities” She considered it for a moment. “Would you like to help me interview her?”

“she’s definitely got the talent to back up her personality, I just hope you can handle her.” Matcha glanced to Evelyn’s drink and then back to her. “I wouldn’t mind helping interview her, though. Could be fun to finally do something together.”

Evelyn didn’t react when Matcha brought up that she hoped Evelyn can handle the new person.

In most cases, it was the other way around. Guess she’ll see.

“Thank you. Yes, it would. Do you mind seeing if she can come by? I would not mind hanging out with you while you wait unless you have other plans?”

“My schedule is clear. It’s not like I have a job or anything to worry about getting to. Well, I didn’t until five seconds ago.” She chuckled. “I’ll reach out to her and see if she’s free for today, if not there’s always later.” Marzy smiled, pulling out her comm and quickly sending a message out to the rambunctious Rattataki about interviewing for a job

“That sounds perfect.” Evelyn waited patiently while Matcha had sent the mysterious pilot a message. Her emerald eyes glanced around the cafe, just watching people. Their body language. The day to day life.

When she was done, she tilted her head and slightly curious, “How have you been, Matcha?”

Her comms dinged rapidly with back to back messages of:

OMW

Wait where?

OH I see the name of the cafe! Haha!

Might've got a bit excited.

Okay! OMW

Oh! Twenty minutes!
