Session export: Rasilvenaira's Pet Adoption Fair

As you arrive at your destination, you see a wide field in the countryside of Seraph. There’s a banner at the front of a fenced off area that reads:

“Welcome to the Pet Adoption Fair! This is your chance to find your new best friend!”

Right at the front gate you see a silver colored protocol droid beside a registration table for people to sign in at.

Beside the registration table is a large sign that reads:

Available species: Tooka Felinx Voorpak Merqaal Tuggle Gorvin Snu Convor Bogling Akk Dog Wolf

Around the fenced area you see some pens with some of the larger species within, a couple large cages, then tables with smaller cages for some of the smaller creatures. All the animals are clean, healthy, and happy. Perfect new companions just waiting for the right person to adopt them.

Going around the area, the first pen on the left side holds the Boglings, then a large cage holds the Wolf cubs, next to them is a large cage holding the Akk Dog puppies. Another pen next to that one holds the Tuggle babies, next to them are the Merqaals in a pen. Then you have a pen for the Gorvin Snu, after them come the smaller cages on tables. The first holds the Convor chicks, the second holds the Felinx kittens, then the third holds Tooka kittens. Finally, the last table holds a large blanket lined basket holding the baby Voorpaks.

Rasilvenaira Stormraven is on hand to assist with answering questions about the animals, and just beyond the pens and cages are two tables set up with a vendor selling supplies to help take care of your new adoptee. Another table holds datapads with information on each of the species available with their care needs and requirements, manned by small BD type droid.

Rules:

You choose the species of pet via interaction within the RP. There is a limit of two adopted animals per person, so please choose carefully. Enthusiasm is understandable, but one of everything is not practical for most people.

Dice rolls (1d10) will be used to help determine the individual pet outcomes. You have one chance to reroll if you do not get a pet you like, but only one, use it wisely.

Be nice to the animals, droids, Rasilvenaira, and her assistants or you might get zapped, and not by the droids.

Rasilvenaira walked leisurely around the field that had been turned into her pet adoption fair once again. Far from her sometimes fearsome reputation, she had two Voorpaks in tow, one on her shoulder and the other one perched on top of her head. Then a small Felinx kitten peered out of one of her pockets. She was checking to make sure all the food and water dishes were still full and that all the young animals were doing well in the strange surroundings.

Unlike some beast sellers, she wasn’t looking to make money, and she cared deeply for each animal, and wanted to ensure that each one got the best home possible. Thus she started the adoption fairs where people could come and see which animal chose them, instead of the other way around. Verlassen was standing at the registration table waiting for their first guests. Rue was also around helping out and checking on all the little animals.

She nodded to herself. Yes, it was going to be a good day.

Rue was indeed helping out, merrily working his way from pen to pen and singing all manner of Ryn tunes, dancing or bobbing while he worked, occasionally with the more adventurous of the baby animals. Sometimes he would transform into ones like them, laughing, and substitute for a cuddling mother tuggle queen for the shier pups. All the while Alk trotted about, watching and greeting and eating the very good grass Ras provided.

The field came into view as the family shuttle circled around and descended to land in an open spot. Only Shadow was at the helm this time, while her husband was busy with his new duties as Quaestor. Voices of her three boys drifted in from behind her, excitement in the air.

“I can’t wait to see what Auntie Ras has this time,” Deus remarked as he squirmed excitedly in his seat. “Maybe something super fierce!”

“I doubt it,” Artorias responded as he combed his fingers through his white hair. “This is an adoption fair, Deus. Not an auction. Has to be safe.”

“Aww. Still. Would be cool if she had a rancor.”

“Rancor!” Sorin shouted in agreement, the boy having turned three not too long ago. “Fluffy!”

“The Force save us if your aunt ever has a rancor here,” Shadow muttered as she finished landing the shuttle and shut her down. “Anyway, your aunt said she had something that Artorias has been wanting for a while now, and your father and I agreed that he’s earned it with all the chores he’s been doing, as well as with his studies.”

The normally reserved Artorias perked up, his golden eyes flashing with newfound excitement and surprise. “You mean…?”

“Mhm. So, let’s get on out there, but remember to be on your best behavior. No getting in the way, and remember your manners. Alright?”

“Yes, Mom,” the twins said in unison as they slid off their chairs.

“Excellent, and as for you…” Shadow picked up Sorin and carried him to the opening ramp. “I’ll just keep you with me. I don’t need you running around getting lost or hurt.”

Sorin scrunched his nose. “Me walk and pet Auntie’s floofs.”

Shadow chuckled and kissed her little one’s cheek. “I promise, you’ll get to pet all the floofs. Anyway, let’s go see your aunt.”

Rasilvenaira glanced up when she heard a new ship landing. When she saw who was coming out of the shuttle she grinned and headed toward the entrance to greet them.

“Hello, my boys.” She opened her arms as the twins rushed toward her, then she looked over to Shadow. “Hello, Shadow, and baby Sorin! Though not so much anymore, as fast as he’s growing.”

She hugged the twins, then reached over to gently ruffle Sorin’s hair. “And how is my sweet Sorin doing, hm?”

“Got some new creatures this time, take a look around and see if anything in particular catches your eye?” She winked at Shadow, then pointed off toward the larger pens. “Might want to start over that way and come around.”

Sorin giggled at his aunt’s gesture of love. The boy was always spoiled rotten by his aunt. “I is good, Auntie Ras!”

Shadow took the hint and nodded to Ras in understanding. “Sounds good, oh, and Sanguis sends his regards as well as a warning not to sneak any gizkas off with the boys. Especially since he won’t be home as often to keep the population in check. Said something also about a rum shipment, but I didn’t quite catch the details.”

Shadow looked down at Artorias as he grabbed her arm eagerly. “Alright, alright. Patience, my little cub. We’re going, we’re going. Pardon us, Ras. Artorias is very excited about his surprise. Come on, boys. Let’s go where your aunt recommended and see what she has in the large pens.”

Rasilvenaira would follow along behind, grinning. In the middle of the larger pens on the left would be a puppy pile of wolf pups of all colors.

Artorias didn’t waste time, rushing over with growing excitement while Deus actually had to try and keep up with him. Upon reaching the pens, the younger twin briefly glanced at the inhabiting animals before moving on to the next. However, when he finally reached the pen containing her heart’s desire, he gasped. There before him was thr promised wolf pups, and one of them would become his new friend to grow up with.

Rasilvenaira finally caught up with them and smiled as she placed a hand on Arty’s shoulder. “Come on, let’s go in and see who chooses you shall we?”

She opened the gate on the pen and let him in first, then stepped in behind him and closed the pen.

“Settle down near them but give them space to come to you when they choose to. The right one will be the one that comes to you before the others do.”

Artorias nodded, trying to contain himself as he inched towards the pups. When he was only a couple feet away, he took a deep breath and sat down. He did his best and settled down, not wanting to scare off the pups. If they were anything like his mother’s Arx wolf, Tsume, they were sure to sense his emotions. Now was the moment of truth.

Some of the pups looked up curiously when Arty moved closer. But most just laid back down or rolled over in the cuddle pile. However, one pup sat up, ears flopped forward, still too young for them to stand up straight. The pup’s eyes were just showing hints of the vivid gold they would become as he aged. His coat was a deep mahogany red with white streaks along his chest and back.

He got up and walked over to Arty, sniffing at him. He gave a soft huff and crawled into the boy’s lap and snuggled up.

“Looks like you’ve been chosen my boy. You’ll have to think of a good name for him now.”

Vance had landed his ship down and strode towards the fenced area. The pink colored half Sephi then stopped at the registration and began to look over the list a bit. He smiled as he saw that Merquaals were on the list. He had always wanted one as he remembered during his days a slave befriending one. They were quite smart and fun to have or who knows perhaps also another pet, they had so many different options.

Artorias smiled as he pet his new friend. He mulled over possible names, wanting something that had deep meaning and connection to him. After all, just like Tsume was to his mother, this pup would become his pack brother. Or at least, so he hoped.

“I think I got it,” he finally spoke, his pensive look turning into a smile. “Tracyn. It’s Mando'a for fire. He’ll have a brave spirit just like my dad did.”

Shadow’s breath hitched, the thoughtful choice stirring emotions in her heart. Though her sons didn’t have a chance to really know their late Mandalorian father, they clung to the stories she had told them over the years. Even though he didn’t have as much of his father’s spirit as Deus did, Artorias still held onto and now honored the memory of Brandon Tarsus.

“That’s a beautiful name, Artorias,” she finally said. “Welcome to the family, Tracyn.”

Rasilvenaira nodded. “I agree. It’s a wonderful name.” She stepped back and opened the gate, “Let’s go finalize his adoption, and you can visit the supply vendor for a collar and leash for him.”

Once Arty and Tracyn were through the gate, she closed again and then led the way over to where Verlassen stood. She flipped through the datapads and pulled out the one for Tracyn.

“This has all his papers, same deal as last time. It has an adoption certificate you can put his name on, and his health information is in there.”

She ruffled Arty’s hair, “Congratulations, he’ll be a good one for you.”

Having spied the family landing, Rue disentangled himself from a couple tuggle pups trying unsuccessfully to nurse and clambered out of the pen before transforming back into his humanoid form. He was bouncing on his toes, heart alight at the sight of the children, having been waiting ever since Ras mentioned her family to meet them.

However, they were on an important wolf mission, and there was another guest to attend while Ras was busy. Duty came first. So the hybrid hurried over to their next arrival, recognizing the man. He waved cheerily.

“Vance!” he called, beaming. “Welcome, welcome!” He peered around. “Is Atticus here too?”

<@1385116824814878940>

“Ah Rue, good to see you!” I hope that you have been doing well. Saw the banner and I just had to come over. Been kind of wanting to have a pet of my own. Sadly never got a chance to keep any pets when I was younger due to..Well that is the past.“ He smiled. "But I can tell you a story about a wonderful little wild Merqaal that used to feed. She had these calming green eyes, gorgeous red fur and beautiful blue grey scale pattern that ran down her back. She was very smart and sometimes would bring me things because I tried to take care of her. Always called her Kylie.”

He smiled as he remembered the pleasant thought before frowning. “Though my master one day came and found me asleep with her curled up in my lap. He then snatched her up, locked her in a cage and.."He sighed. "I never got to see Kylie again, but she still is in my heart. And I hope that wherever she is, that she is safe.”

He then took out his handkerchief from his pocket and wiped his misty eyes. “Ah don’t worry about me just something in my eye. And yeah I think atticus is coming, I did mention to him that I would be coming over to possibly adopt a pet or two and he did come with me in my ship. So he may be along shortly” He chuckled.

Atticus slowly made his way from the ship. He glanced around nervously, taking his surroundings in slowly.

Then he saw Rue standing by Vance. He gave a joyful shout of greeting, and started to wave merrily, almost foolishly, as he walked up to stand beside Vance.

“Rue! So glad to see you are here too.” As he beamed, he slipped his hand into Vance’s. “I was told there were all sorts of delightful critters to be seen here.”

“Atticus!” Given the man’s own apparent happiness, and how he’d seemed lonely at the bonfire, Rue welcomed him with a hug thrown around both men’s shoulders, as Atticus held Vince’s hand.

“It is lovely to see you both!” he enthused, and then pulled back, his welcoming smile gentling some as he sought and met Vance’s eyes. The hybrid’s only hand came up to thumb away the stray streak of a tear. “There is no shame in grief, for it is love.” He showed his damp finger pad. “Wherever Kylie may have gone, this is how she remains with you.”

<@1385116824814878940> <@297496904282144769>

Vance smiled as he gave Atticus’s a soft squeeze. He then placed his other hand up, giving Rue a hearty pat on the shoulder. “Thanks Rue, yeah she still has a place in my heart. I saw that there are some Merquaals. I was wondering if I could see them.” He then smiled. “Depending may have to adopt one.It would be a great joy to have one with me on travels, besides of course this handsome Jedi beside me, he winked at Atticus.

Atticus’ looked away, his hand nervously hovering below his chin. He bit his lip, glancing at Vance. “I-I-I am still not- um- used to…” he trailed off, blushing as he looked back at Rue. He then seemed to change his mind, giving an uncertain smile. “I- um- I haven’t had a chance to, um, have a pet. And Vance makes it sound so….nice.”

Artorias smiled. “Thank you, Auntie Ras. I promise I’ll take good care of him.”

With that, Artorias joined his mother and brothers, receiving a gentle squeeze on his shoulder from his mother before she took the datapad from him and walked with him toward the supply vendor.

Sorin, meanwhile, looked around as they passed by a few pens. “Mama, I wanna pet that! Ooo, what’s that? That one so fuzzy!”

“Easy, little one. We’ll go look at all the other critters once we have a leash and collar for our new pup. That way, we can look around a bit more freely.”

“Aww, okay.” Sorin looked at the pup in Art’s arms. “Can I pet pup pup?”

Artorias looked up at his half-brother and smiled. “Of course you can, Sorin. I promise.”

“Yay! Tank you, Arty.”

“You’re welcome, Sorin.”

“Oh, which reminds me,” Shadow suddenly spoke. “Ras said she has someone here she wants us to meet whenever we get the chance. We didn’t get to meet them last time. Again, remember your manners when the time comes, alright? First, we get that collar and leash.”

Rue’s smile was kind and knowing to Atticus. “This one understands. Until a year ago, this one lived a very different life. It– I was an experiment. And the Outside is very vast, different, and confusing, with entirely different rules and experiences. But I met good people who are my friends, and they also had companions, like Alk.” He gestured over to the mott, and called to him in growling Shirryywook. Immediately the little ambassador trotted over, snuffling both Zeltrons and licking at their hands in greeting as his rump wriggled. “Also I got a voorpak from Ras at the last fair. Animals are…not like people. Not like Masters. They are not cruel. They only hurt for their reasons, to eat or protect. They are often kind. You will feel better, this one thinks, to have such a friend. Perhaps one that is easy to care for given it will be your first. Come. We have merqaals you can both see.”

<@1385116824814878940>

Atticus brightened at this.

Vance grinned as he gently patted the Mott. “I remember you. Always running about.” The mercenary’s pink long ears twitched happily as a smile came across his face. “Yes, Atticus I agree, an animal friend would probably do you some good. Lead the way Rue, I would absolutely love to see the merqaals.”

“This way,” chirped Rue, guiding them to where the merqaal puggles were held. Some peeked up at the approach, the bolder ones coming forward, while a few watched more shyly. “If you see one you like, we can see if they like you. Or we can take them all over to the playpen there and let them see you…Ras believes in the pet choosing its partner.”

Vance smiled widely as he observed the merqaals his, violet eyes full of joy and mirth. “I fully agree Rue, I much prefer a pet to choose their partner and work together. How about we head to the playpen and let them decide.”

As he followed, his eyes got a little wider. He felt like, well, he really didn’t know what he felt like. There was a warmth in his heart, and it wasn’t just because Rue and Vance were close. There was an energy here. It might have been only the Force, or it might have just been an emotional energy. He hadn’t really gotten a good hold on which was which, despite his years of experience.

He just knew that he felt things. As he drew close to the pen, the Zeltron slowed. Atticus leaned forward tentatively, extending a trembling hand to one of the shy looking merqaal pups. “Hey little ones.” His voice cracked a bit, and he cleared his throat.

His heart melted a bit at seeing the timid creatures. He wanted to reach out and stroke one of them, but Rue’s words halted him. All creatures deserved respect, be they Force-wielding sentients, or the basest creature.

Reiden had waited for his shuttle to find a spot to land. It was maybe a bit overkill to arrive by ship when he lived on the planet, but it was the fastest and easiest way to get to the field where Ras had set up her fair. He wasn’t sure if he would get anything, but it didn’t hurt to look just in case. There was no telling when or if something might call to him.

He spotted a familiar shuttle as he touched down, then the family it belonged to as he entered the area with the animals. He watched them, happy to see that they were out and having fun, and that Arty had success already, a little wolf pup in his arms. Shadow, much like Ras, always liked her animals, so he wasn’t surprised to see that the boys could be the same way.

He smiled as he headed over to them. “I was wondering if I’d find you here today. It looks like you’ve already found a new friend.” <@411418079810289665>

Kalen had been on a 2 week ‘work’ trip. Atleast thats how he described it to his girlfriend back on Aliso, they had been planing to move in together since a few weeks before Kalen has started this recent set of mission. He had just made a deal the night before to buy an acreage on then outskirts of Aliso, right next to lot where the two had gone on their first date.

But while he was on the return leg of his trip he found himself doing a search on the holonet for a place nearby where he could procure a cute pet to suprise Corra with when he got home. Luckily he found a place less then a parsec away. He set course, and in less then an hour he was bringing his sleek chromed out Star Courier down for a routine landing on the planet Seraph infront of the location identified as a Pet Adoption Fair on his HPS.

He walked over to the entrance and could see the place was busy but not crowded, hoping he could pop in and buy a Porg or a Corvin real quick and take back off soon.

He signed in at the registration table and made his way inside.

Rasilvenaira pointed out the pet supply vendor to Shadow and the boys, then excused herself as she saw another potential adopter walking through the front gate. He wasn’t someone she was familiar with, so she walked over to him and offered a welcoming smile.

“Hello, I’m Rasilvenaira. I’ll be happy to help you find a new friend. Do you have any idea what species you’re looking for, or a type? Maybe I can help you narrow it down.”

“You’re also welcome to look around and BD over there has informative datapads on each of the species we have here today if you want to read up on requirements or basic care.” She pointed to the little BD droid perched on a table full of datapads. Then she pointed to a vendor with several tables set up. “We also have a supply vendor here to help you get off to a good start with things you might need for the new pet.”

“Oh hi, I’m Kalen” He bowed.

“Uh, yeah, I’m just looking for i dunno, maybe pair of small avians. Something domesticated or easily trained…oh, and they gotten be able to survive on worms, water and the occasional reptile(he recalled how little fauna their was on Aliso). Do you have anything like that around?” He said as he saw a few cases with bird or bird like.species in the distance.

Rasilvenaira chuckled at that, and shrugged, “Well, water is important, but they’ll need a bit more care in the food department. But it shouldn’t be difficult to get. We do have a pet supply vendor to get you started with the basics. And I do have some Convor chicks, they’re fully fledged and ready for their new home. If you’d like, we can go over and see which one chooses you, you can try for two, but I do have a limit of two pets per person, so they’ll be properly cared for when they go home with you.”

She pointed to the cage holding ten rather round and plump looking convors. “Over here.” She led the way over.

“Thank you so much.” He immediately looked eyes with one of the convurs. Its head titled as Kalen and Rasilveinara walked over to their cage.

Rasilvenaira opened the cage, and the chicks sat still, being well behaved enough to not try to fly out.

“Put your hand in and give them a chance to see you, then we’ll see who comes over to greet you. That will be the one that chooses you. And if your lucky, since you wanted a pair, maybe a second will also come over. But if not you might have to settle until you can find one that is right.”

“Hmmm"Kalen said, a bit anxious at the thought kf being prompted to put his arm in a cage full of a beaked creatures that had the nickname of ‘Trandoshan Owls’. But, it was for Corra and the small birds didnt seem particularly ferocious. He rolled his sleaves and put his hand in, palm up.

The one bird that had been glaring at him intentlt, gray with a white chest, one of the larger one intact, hopped forward to within reach of Kalens hand. Kalen, trying to be gentle, lowered his hand to the floor of the cage, still palm up, and the gray convur instantly hopped onto his hand. When Kalen pulled his hand out the bird stayed out for a beat then abruptly lept up and began to flutter around for a few seconds before landing on Kalens shoulder.

Most of the other birds stayed shooed in a corner of the cage. But as Kalen pulled the first one out he noticed a smaller golden cheeked white convur hop forward. The second bird looked up at the gray one, over to Kalens face, then down, then back up to the gray one and then back down again.

Kalen smiled "looks like that one wants to come to. Are these 2 breedable by any chance?” He asked casually, having another one of his get rich quick schemes. Before Kalen could even reach in for the second one it flew out of the cage, fluttered infront of the gray one momentarily before going and landing on Kalens other shoulder.

He snickered “I guess the decisions been made. How much do I owe you for these 2 fine creatures?”

Rasilvenaira watched closely, and when the second Convor flew out, she closed the cage. “Looks like you got extra lucky, they’ve both chosen you.”

She tilted her head at the question then thought for a moment. “I do believe they are from unrelated clutches, but we can confirm that when we go up front and get their paperwork. There’s no cost, you just sign the adoption contract and promise to take good care of them. Follow me.”

She led the way over to where Verlassen stood and flipped through a box of datapads. “Mhm, here we go. Yes, they’re unrelated, so they could be allowed to breed when they’re mature enough.”

She handed him the two datapads. “This has their adoption certificate, with a place to put in their new names when you think of them. Then there’s also their pedigrees, basic care sheets, my contact info should you ever run into a problem with them, and their health papers.”

“Oh wow, thank you so much, this is perfect” he said as hensigned the paper. As he he was about to say farewell and leave he stopped himself after looking around at the place. It wasn’t in shambles or dilapidated at all but Kalen could tell it was a modest established. He pulled out a 50 credit piece and placed it on the table infront of the woman.

“If you do not wish to accept the gratuity please donate this to a charity of your choosing. If I have any problems I’ll definitely give you a call. Thanks again.”

“Thank you very much.” She quietly palmed the credits and they disappeared. “It will go to the upkeep of the animals I raise. I wish you luck with your new friends, and if you’d like to get some food and things to get started you’re welcome to visit with our supply vendor just over there.”

She pointed to the tables laden with a wide variety of pet care goods.

“Oh perfect. Thanks.” 400 credits later and Kalen was calling D-3P0 on the commlink to come and help him carry the bird food, treats, toys, and the large carrying cage he had purchased.

Turning to the owner Kal waved goodbye “Thanks again.” And he turned and made his way back to the ship with the 2 long tailed corvuns perched on his shoulders.

“Uncle Reiden!” Deus shouted as he attempted to glomp his adopted uncle. “Yep, Arty got a wolf!”

“I named him Tracyn,” Artorias added as he showed the pup off to Reiden. “Isn’t he beautiful?”

“Uncle Rei Rei!” Sorin struggled against his mother’s grasp, reaching for the man. “I miss you!”

Shadow chuckled as she offered Reiden a chance to hold the three-year-old. “It’s good to see you again, Reiden. It’s been a while. I hope you’re doing well and that my husband has been nice to you.”

The small woman stepped off the ramp of the T-6 shuttle that had conveyed her here. The markings of her Clan were prominent from certain directions but blended expertly into the vessel’s paint.

She wasn’t sure if there was going to be a creature here for her, but there was always a chance. The small trill from beneath her hat caused her to smile.

“Don’t worry, Pips. I doubt that even I can find trouble at a petting zoo.”

<<I don’t believe you.>> came the beeped response.

“That’s because you don’t believe anything I say.”

<<You aren’t exactly trustworthy.>>

Little bastard. Miho sighed and shrugged as she started towards the cages and crates of creatures. Maybe she’d run into someone she knew here.

Gesturing for the couple to follow, Rue took the merqaals from their pen and to the small playpen/meeting area for socialization. He set them free carefully, mindful to make sure everyone involved was safe, and let the two people be explored by the litluns.

<@1385116824814878940>

“Deus!” Reiden called out as he expertly caught the boy and grinned before setting him down. He looked at Arty and nodded appreciatively. “He looks like he’ll be a fine companion, and a good name. Another canine added to the collection” he added, giving Shadow a look. He knew Loki and Tsume and they’d both been good pets for the family. It made sense that they’d get something similar. He smiled as he took Sorin, giving the toddler a hug. “I missed you too, Sorin. All of you. Luckily I haven’t been too busy, and I can always make some time to visit.”

Vance sat himself down carefully stretching out his hands for the little merqaals to explore. He smiled softly, as he watched one of them running about happily. A couple others with bright emerald eyes gazed at the pink sephi smiling at them. “Well hello sweet ones, don’t be afraid.” He remembered back when he had Kylie around. He hummed a soft tune as his eyes watched the bolder ones approaching. The creatures had varying shades of reddish brown fur with greyish blue scales and different hues of green in their eyes. Simply gorgeous sweet animals “Now remember Atticus, let them come to you.” He grinned to the Jedi looking wide eyed at them.

“I….I will mind my self, and I will excude peace.” The Jedi smiled, humming a short note in an even sequence, similar to the way that he sometimes did as he recited mantras or meditated on the Force. He felt a knot in his throat as he reached out a welcoming hand towards the creatures.

Rasilvenaira saw another visitor entering the field, so she excused herself to step away and greet them.

“Hello, there. Miho, isn’t it? We bumped into each other at the Shame Corner my last trip through, but only briefly. I’m Rasilvenaira, a friend of Reiden’s. Welcome to the adoption fair. Are you looking for something in particular or just looking in general to see what catches your eye?”

She tilted her head back a bit and smiled at Rasilvenaira. “Mm. I have a… friend who likes animals and I was thinking I might like to have one myself.”

Miho thought for a minute. Construction had already begun on her ship, the Voice of the Storm, and perhaps it might not be the best idea to have some of them in a zero grav environment. “It would need to be able to thrive for long periods on board a ship. I don’t have a home so to speak, so I’m always on the move.”

Pips whistled softly, clearly a judgment of such arrangements. “Do you think you have something that could do that?”

“I think the boys would love that,” Shadow remarked. “And I think Deus could use some of his uncle’s wisdom, as of late.”

“Mooom.” Deus rolled his eyes.

“What? You nearly started a fire in the gardens.”

“For science!”

“More like for chaos,” Artorias muttered as he pet Tracyn. He looked up at his uncle and smiled. “Are you going to get a new pet, Uncle? Or just here to look around?”

Rasilvenaira nodded, then tilted her head to regard the little droid. “Hello to you too.”

“Hmm, I would recommend one of the felines, either a Tooka cat or a Felinx. They’re very adaptable and once bonded, they are good at staying close to their person without needing leashes or cages. Felinx don’t need much grooming since their fur is shorter than the Tookas. Or you could go with something small like a Voorpak.”

She reached up to take the one off the top of her head and held it for a moment. “They love being close with their person, once you bond with them you’ll find yourself never alone again. They’re also very low maintenance, just a light petting will keep their coats in good shape, and they don’t eat much at a time.”

As the Merqaals came out, some darted about the pen, others eyed the Zeltrons curiously, but hesitated. Vance’s eyes lit up with joy as a male with a tan back and white belly came up very very slowly and sniffed at Vance’s fingers. It’s emerald eyes carefully keeping watch ready to dart. Vance smiled softly. “It’s okay little one, I won’t hurt you.” As he spoke another far bolder one with a blue back and rather buff belly nudged the other merqaal a bit as it sniffed and licked at Vance’s other hand. “Well, you are sort of take charge one aren’t you?” He chuckled as he carefully reached out to pet its head.

Reiden looked at his friend in shock then, very quickly, suppressed a smile at how the twins interacted - it would be bad if the boys saw it and misinterpreted it. Even though they were getting older now, the twins were similar to how he remembered them from a few years ago. He still felt bad about missing time with them after the family had moved away. Staying in touch was one thing, but it wasn’t the same as seeing them in person, even more so once he learned that Sorin had been born. But he was happy to make up for lost time.

“I’m always happy to help where I can. But a fire?” He looked from Shadow to Deus, giving the more mischievous twin his best stern expression. “You know you shouldn’t be doing that, especially not without your parents around to supervise. Even scientists need to be careful and follow rules.”

He turned to Arty, watching him with his new friend, smiling. “I didn’t have anything specific in mind, but I think I’ll get something if I feel drawn to it.” A look at Sorin, his smile growing. “Maybe you boys can help me look?”

The Zeltron Jedi watched as the merqaals sniffed and wandered about the area. He smiled at Vance as he started to scratch the head of a blue-backed critter. Atticus’ eyes wandered over the lot. They were all so cute. He felt like a child at a sweets shop as he considered his potential companions. Reaching out into the Force, he felt a multitude of emotions coming off the various potential new friends. He watched, and considered which he might reach out to. His hand was stretched out, but few gave him more than cursory consideration.

He closed his eyes. The Force would guide him.

As he opened his eyes, he saw one of them approaching him. A cute merqaal approached, it’s head tilted to one side. Two of its feelers were stretched out, almost as though in response to the Jedi’s outstretched fingers.

“Hello there,” Atticus smiled. The scaly creature seemed to give him a look over. “Do you- do you- um- do you want to be my friend?”

He could have sworn he saw it give almost a humanoid grin as it approached. It made a turn around, showing the man its gray back before circling back around to face him. It gave a chirp, chirp, chirp and an almost contented squeak as it nuzzled it’s face up against Atticus’ fingers.

“You are a fearless little one, aren’t you?” The Zeltron smiled as he looked back at Vance. “So, how much are these cuties supposed to cost?” He looked back at the merqaal as he scratched at the animal’s side. The pet was now happily turning over on its cream belly to receive more scratches. “Actually, I am not exactly sure what to feed you little guy. I am going to have to get so many supplies to keep you have- and, I- I mean.” He looked down, his eyes wandering and hopeful. “If you- do you- I mean- um- do you want to come home with me?”

The merqaal seemed very content, cuddling closer to Atticus and making happy noises. If there was any way to say yes to going with him, it was doing so.

Rue smiled at both of them, encouraging, “The adoptions themselves are free, so long as Ras or I feel as though you are good fits for the animals…and I do. The supplies you will need to purchase, but Ras also has some old extras she can offer if you are short of credits. We have all their information on each pad there.”

He pointed to the check in table.

“I named this litter, but it is perfectly valid if you choose new names, or if they do,” his tone softened, speaking more to the merqaals, who squeaked at him. He chittered back.

<@297496904282144769> <@1385116824814878940>

Vance smiled as he scritched both the meerqaals he had licking his hands. “What did you call these three rascally wonderful creatures.” His eyes lit up. “Oh I am definitely taking these two if I can and more than happy to purchase supplies. I just feel so very happy right now.” He smiled at Atticus and his chittering meerqaal.

Rue blushed slightly, but offered, “In my family, we are named for flowers, plants…it is how my grandmother named me and now I have named all my litluns. I called these Borage,” this to the bold blue-bellied buff one, “Zinnia,” this to the inquisitive one Atticus held, “and Buttercup,” to the shy but curious second merqaal to choose Vance. “You could of course rename them, as I said. Or there are their botanical names, which we also use: Borago officinalis, zinnia elegans or zinnia violecea as the most common cultivar of the zinnia genus, Ranunculus. There’s also common names for the same plants, like starflower, spinyleaf, crowfoot…”

He trailed off, nibbling at one knuckle self-consciously as he caught himself rambling.

“Apologies.”

<@297496904282144769>

“Is that so, well Borage I think definitely fits this bold little guy.” He replied as he let the bold one sit down in his lap and scratched it’s buff belly. Didn’t forget you buttercup.“ He grinned as he gently pet the shyer curious one. "Well Atticus , what do you think of Zinnia?” He then turned to see Rue nibbling at his knuckle and winked. “Ah no need to apologize Rue, I appreciate the botany lesson in flower names. Your grandmother would be very proud of you for carrying on her naming legacy.”

Tears welled and spilled quickly down the hybrid’s cheeks, but he seemed unbothered by the display of emotion. He smiled through them, a small but grateful thing that hitched around his teeth. “Thank you, Vance. That is a kindness. I pray dearly to our Goddess every night to have done right by her.”

With that he began gathering up the other merqaals to return them to their pen while the boys settled or not on names and made their way to the supply and information stations.

“That name.” Atticus looked from Rue to the merqaal and back to Rue, biting his lip. “Zinnia?” He smiled softly. “Is that the name that you like, little one?” The merqaal chirped happily, brushing up against his hand again. “I guess I have my answer,” the Zeltron laughed.

So next on his list was going to be supplies, and then he would have to make sure to stock up on food, and-

Where are you going to stay? His heart sank a little. Vance had been sweet, and had been more than friendly, but he hated putting his new friend out like that. It might be different if- but you can’t suppose such things, Atticus. Assumption is part of what put you where you are right now.

He shook his head, dispelling the negative thoughts. That would be a conversation for later. He stole a glance at Vance playing with his new pets.

Not now. Later.

He looked back to Rue, a question on the tip of his tongue. He couldn’t bring the words forward, and besides, it felt weird and rude. Vance had already given some praise to Rue, and piling on felt like it might seem insincere. Anxiety gripped at his heart, but instead he forced an embarassed smile. “I think that the spare supplies might be good for now. My wallet is a little light. Vance has been nice enough to give me a spot on his couch while I have been getting my feet under me, and my upcoming work with the Shadow Academy and the College- erm, I mean the Aurora Collegium has yet to start. Is there a way that I- um-” he sighed, “is there a-a-uh-a way I can- um, pay you back? You-your kindness, I mean?” He shook his head, shaking slightly. “I don’t want to be a burden to anyone else.” His tone dropped low as he spoke the last words, holding Zinnia close to himself.

Vance’s sephi ears picked up the soft question being posed to Rue. “All right you two cuties, be right back to get you both, I need to first pay for all three of you, get food, toys and home supplies.” He then dusted off and walked over to Atticus, softly slipping his right hand over Atticus’s left hand and held it. He then gave Rue a wink. “So yeah I am just absolutely loving all three Meerqaal cuties, just got my heart in their cute paws. So Rue, if you could be so kind as to help us pick out the right food, toys and anything needed to help better care for these amazing sweethearts, just charge it to my credits chip. Atticus, you are fine I got this.” He gave his hand a squeeze. “No need to pay me back.”

The Zeltron blushed, looking down. “N-no-no, I meant paying back Mister Rue and company for their kindness in offering supplies to those in need and-.” He didn’t dare to look up at Vance, as much as he wanted to. “I-” he swallowed, and found he couldn’t speak. He just nodded. Now, he felt like he owed Vance for his kindness. How would he pay that?

Perhaps wisely, Rue advised, ever gentle but with a certain firmness to Atticus, as though guiding a child, “This one has learned, Sir Atticus, that here in the Outside, many acts are not meant or wanted to be ‘paid back,’ particularly between friends. Great kindnesses that to us we could never deserve or be worthy of or smallest mistakes that to us would merit fiercest punishment simply…are not quite so extreme. This one would even go so far as to presume Sir Vance has experience in this perspective, as he has said in the past he was also a slave. While this one does not identify with that label, it is a legally defined term that is often closest in application to this one’s previous living situation. Therefore it is logical to conclude that Sir Vance sympathizes, but very much means it when he says there is no need for payment. We must in turn practice a new kind of learning, which to accept kindnesses upon our persons even when they feel…”

He paused them, something twisting across his otherwise serene features before smoothing back out into soft, knowing regard.

“…even when they feel…most vile…to be bestowed on ones so lowly. Or at least convinced of how lowly we are. If I may suggest as much, practice with small acts, and practice now, by thanking us, yes, but by reflecting inward to temper your sense of guilt and inferiority.”

The fact that he said all this while a baby merqaal sat atop his head and he rocked another like an infant perhaps undid the effect a bit, but.

A cat might be nice. Miho smiled and gestured for Rasilvenaira to lead the way. “Perhaps one of the felines, yes. My friend likes cats too.”

Pips whistled over her shoulder. <<You have trouble keeping track of yourself.>>

She waved a hand at her shoulder to silence the little droid.

“Tell me about the different species you have please.” The small Odanite was polite as she ever was.

Ras chuckled softly at the little droid, but turned her attention to the woman’s questions. “Of course. The Tooka come from harsher climates, what’s why they have a thicker coat, but still don’t need a lot of grooming. Just a good brushing once a week is enough to keep them in good shape. Most learn to love the brushing though so it can be a daily bonding exercise. They bond very strongly to one person, and will even become protective of their chosen person. This can cause some tension in families, but if you’re by yourself a lot, it wouldn’t be as much of an issue.”

“The Felinx comes from a more temperate to tropical environment. Some come in a hairless variety, but mine are what’s called a rex variety, they have short wavy hair that is extremely soft, a wipe down with a soft cloth or lots of petting is all they really need to keep their coats in shape. They also bond well to their people, but are more sociable, so better for a family situation. They can be somewhat on the vocal side, but I like that about them. They’ll talk with you.”

“Both felines are fairly independent, so they can be left alone for several hours without too much trouble. Though they’ll both likely show some display of affection when you come back to them.”

She pointed to the two different cages. “It really just depends on which one you feel more drawn to, then we can see who chooses you.”

Atticus nodded. There was wisdom in the word from MIster Rue.

“I will strive to- I will- I mean-” he sighed. “I will take this lesson to heart, my friend. It is hard sometimes. I thank you both for your patience with me. I will also try to indulge in such acts of charity in order to try to lift up others, as well.” He smiled.

“Through such acts, we can make the galaxy seem a much brighter place.” He smiled down at Zinnia, who was snuggling into his arms now.

As he got back to the JV Corra III with his 2 new pets, a bunch of pet supplies, and an overloaded D-3P0.

“Oh thank the maker we’ve made it, these bucket of owl food were stretching my arm accuators to their capacity Master Joss” D said, as always finding something toncomplain about.

Karracca emerged from the ship and walked down the back access rampway laughing and churling at Kalen.

“You brought me a snack, how kind Brother” the Wookie said as he jokingly prodded his love-struck pal.

“Haha, very funny big guy. They’re for Corra, I told you.” Kalen confirmed for the 3rd time since alterting course to head there. As the 2 chatted the 2 convurs jumped off of Kalens shoulder and flew into the ship as if they knew that was home.

Karracca simply made a sound that micmicked a cracking whip “whhhht tch!”

“Yeah yeah…so anyway, on a more serious note buddy. I was thinking, since you wont let me release you from this life debt, I might as well out you to work. Instead of having you freeload on my couch up on the flight deck(upper deck of the Star courier)…why don’t I make you co-Captain of Corra III…but I’m still the boss though, deal?” He managed to get out before the round Wookie seized him in a big furry wookie-hug.

Kalen didnt really get what the hug was all about. He just said he was going to start making him do stuff now instead of just constantly napping. Kalen was beginning to wonder if the all the naps were simply because his big Wookie friends didnt have anything else better to do.

“Hey no worries Atticus, we all are constantly learning things.” Vance grinned at Zinnia and the Zeltron. He was glad to help out this healing Jedi. He remembered their talk at the crossroads bar and a sweet endearing smile crossed his face as he felt a bit lighthearted and giddy. He enjoyed seeing Atticus so happy and then realized he had started to daydream a bit. Quickly, he snapped back to reality as he bent down, held out his hands and let the two Merqaals come to him. “Borage, Buttercup are you ready?” He smiled as Borage dashed across and up his arm wrapping around his neck like a scarf. Buttercup shyly approached and sniffed his hand. “It’s okay Buttercup, I am going to show you a really nice place where you can run around more and have fun.” The Merqaal chirped happily and let Vance pick him up. “That’s right, both of you are coming home with me.” He replied happily scritching Borage’s side as he cradled buttercup. He chuckled turning back to Rue who still had a baby merqaal on his head. “I think we are ready Rue to get the supplies and get these three to their new home.” He smiled.

Artorias grinned. “Sure thing, Uncle Reiden. We’d love to help.”

“Sorin wanted to pet all the animals anyway,” Deus remarked. “And I promise, no more fires. At least not in the gardens.”

“We help, Uncle!” Sorin added excitedly. “And…and boop all the…all the snoots!”

Shadow chuckled. “Well, I think you’re in good hands, Reiden. I may just walk around and take a gander myself or help Ras if she needs any.”

She looked at the boys. “Remember, no running off, and no causing your uncle trouble.”

“Yes, ma'am,” the twins said in unison.

“Good. Now, go with your uncle and have fun. I’ll be nearby if you need me.”

Vance chuckled as he looked back at Atticus again holding his new pet very carefully as he snuggled it. He walked over to the Jedi and gave him a wink as his smile just grew. “I think Zinnia really likes you Atticus. I am gonna head to the supply station now and see what treats, and stuff I need. You can follow me or enjoy more time with Zinnia if you like.”

He then use his left free hand and gave Atticus a soft side hug and kiss on his forehead before walking back towards Rue. The Zeltron jedi just looked so cute holding his Merqaal like a stuffed toy. Course Rue just looked absolutely adorable with the baby one on his head. He giggled a bit and practically pranced up to Rue. “Thank you for helping us pick these beauties out. I can’t wait to show them their homes.” He thenextended his free hand and softly patted Rue’s shoulder. “I think a baby Meerqaal hat looks great on you.”

With a cheeky smile and wink to Rue, Vance turned and just pranced and danced with both his meerqaals to the supply station. His hips just swaying back and forth to his own delightful tune as he waited in line. This was just one perfect day and nothing could stop his immense joy.

With Vance and Atticus and three new merqaals with loving homes, Rue took the other puggles back to their pen and made sure they settled in. By the time he was done, the two pink men were in their own little world, absorbed in one another and pet supplies. A small pang of discomfort squeezed in his chest and stomach, and the hybrid furrowed his brows, searching internally for what had caused it, as it was a novel sensation, and when it came to discomforts of the body, there were very, very few he did not know intimately and at rigorously studious depths.

However, not a bubble of gas nor murmur of his heart could he find, at least not before something else demanded his attention fully; the pealing of small voices chattering, laughing, and some light shoving in the twins’ cases as they jockeyed for the best view in front of one pen. His dear friend Reiden was behind them, making sure the littlest did not fall behind.

A purr was already rising in his throat as Rue approached, smiling.

“Hello, litluns. Hello, Sir Reiden.” He was bouncing on his toes to meet the much-spoken-of nephews at last. “And who do we have here, this trio of knights?”

<@232396983854301187> <@411418079810289665>

The boys looked up at the stranger. Deus’ eyes widened in surprise and awe, while Sorin looked upon Rue with pure wonder. Artorias, ever the one to remember his manners and not stare, elbowed his twin before speaking.

“I’m Artorias, and this is my twin brother, Deus. Sorin is our…”

Artorias scrunched his nose. It never felt right to call Sorin his half-brother. To him, Sorin was his brother, plain and simple, and their stepfather was his dad. Not a replacement of his actual father, but a father who had taken time to understand him and love him all the same. “…Sorin is our little brother.”

“Arty,” Deus groaned, not happy to have the spotlight stolen from him. “I could’ve introduced myself.”

Sorin, meanwhile, couldn’t help himself and just continued to stare. He’d never really seen anyone like Rue before, but his awe was soon replaced by an urge those closest to him were all too familiar with. An urge and a bad habit that had been encouraged by his aunt.

There was a new arm to nom on with his little fangs, and he would have it.

“Up, up?”

Rue’s smile became impossibly wider and brighter and twice as melty. His eyes shone with unshed tears and his skin flushed with a golden-rose shimmer of joy as he easily swooped down and swept Sorin into his arms as he had done thousands and thousands and thousands of times. The half-arm had once been problematic, but a decade of practice had allowed him to adjust, and he gracefully and easily nestled Sorin on his hip and to his chest, using his stump as a brace and a cradle while he gave the tot his hand to chew on. He was totally unblinking to the small teeth that swiftly ravaged his skin.

“Uppsy-daisy!” he exclaimed in the process, laughing and cooing. A fluting chatter of vowels and consonants spilling harmonies followed as he added in Ryn, “Oh hello indeed, litlun, it is my honor to meet you. You are welcome, blood of my blood, my breath to yours, my life to yours.”

To the twins, he crouched while still holding Sorin and swept his tail forward to encircle them, brushing gently over their shoulders.

“It is my honor and joy to meet you, young Sir Artorias and Sir Deus. And little Sorin here as well, of course. Tell me all about yourselves, please.”

Deus wasted no time, glad to have some of the spotlight back while enjoying the newly bestowed title of ‘sir’. “Well, Arty and I are eight-and-a-half years old, but I’m the oldest. Our dad was Brandon Tarsus. We don’t really remember him, but Mom said he was a really tough Mandalorian! One day, I’m going to be a strong Mando like my dad!”

Artorias smiled when it was his turn to speak. “I plan to be a Sith like my Mom and our stepdad,” he stated for clarification. “He says I’m very strong in the Force, and thinks I’ll make a great Sith one day if I wanna be one. Other than that, there’s not much more about me. I love to read and draw.”

The white-haired boy looked down and petted his furry companion. “And now I have a new friend. I named him Tracyn. It means fire.”

Meanwhile, Sorin just continued to nom away, only to finally shift his attention to Rue’s face when the urge finally subsided. Sorin just studied Rue before he smiled. “I is Sorin. You fwend?”

Rue smiled and lightly touched his forehead to Sorin’s, a purr pouring out of him. “Yes, I am and will always be your friend, Sir Sorin.”

He kissed the boy’s hair, tiny holes in his hand and arms closing over, and then looked to the twins properly.

‘Eight and a half is a wonderful age. It is beautiful. I am so glad you are eight, and will be nine.“ His tail swept around them again. "Sir Brandon Tarsus would be very proud of both his sons, I know. This one is also of the Mandalorian– but adopted by its sister.” A glance to Art, and while his smile remained, it did not reach his eyes. “This over hopes that you use your greatness for kindness and gentleness and concordance. And that you keep reading and drawing. I also like these things. I draw botanical studies.”

Sorin grinned and blushed from the affectionate gesture, hugging his new friend in return.

Meanwhile, ever the observant one, Artorias noticed the softer smile and an odd prickle in the Force, questioning if it was something he had said. He brushed it aside, however, though his self-confidence dwindled a bit. He didn’t fully understand the implications yet of what it meant to be a Sith, along with the sacrifices his parents had made for their path. In his young mind, he wanted to follow their example. For him, it was something to be proud of, just as it was for Deus to be proud of their Mandalorian heritage.

“Botanical studies?” he asked, choosing to let his curiosity take over. “Like flowers? Mom and Dad used to take us to the botanical gardens back on Nagi. I believe that’s what they were called, anyway.”

Not far away from them, Shadow’s attention shifted from one of the pens, the Sith reminding herself they had enough critters at home. She caught sight of the boys with Rue, and decided to join them. “Hello. You must be Rue. Ras has told me a great deal about you. It’s a pleasure to finally meet you. I see you’ve met my little ones.”

A little late to the gathering for the Adoption Fair, four people of varying heights approached the gates and the registration table. Three adults and a preteen. At first glance, it was fairly obvious that two of the adults were siblings — fraternal twins, in fact — as well as the fact that the eleven year old with them was closely related to both, if roughly a decade younger.

Two females and two males, an odd balance.

Rhys Edraven was a thin, if graceful young man with bright silver eyes, facial features that indicated he would grow into a truly handsome man as he shed his youth. He wore black boots, black slacks and a rich purple shirt, smiling up at the shortest of the three adults as the Pantoran in blue and black ARC Trooper armor (sans helmet and gloves) playfully ruffled his windswept chestnut brown locks.

Ruana’s own pale hair, normally cascading down her back, was bound in a long, single braid to keep it out of her way. Her own dark gaze was sweeping the area for threats to her youngest and arguably most vulnerable brother-in-law.

Especially since neither she, her wife Artemis, nor her wife’s twin brother thought bringing HK-72 to a gathering such as this to be a good idea. By any means.

The twins were a few steps behind, quietly arguing over the fact that Artemis had drug Marius to one of these events. Again.

Something about how he already had a pet he didn’t want. And that the Raven constantly stole things and moved them to different places, which messed with the physically blind half-Sephi.

“Can it, you two. We need to check in at the registration desk and I assure you that none of the children need to hear your foul mouth, Marius,” the Pantoran growled over her shoulder.

The male in varying shades of gray, blue and black in some sort of tunic armor grumbled, but acquiesced.

Artemis gave her wife a smile for helping her win the argument.

“Hello, we’re here to get our little brother a pet,” Ruana announced to the protocol droid.

Vance meanwhile at the supply station, began to look over the various food bowls, types of Merqaal food, bedding, and play toys. Borage was nestled around his neck still making happy chirping sounds as he held Buttercup in his arms. “So you two, what am I getting you both?”

Verlassen nodded as the group signed in. “Yes, of course. My Mistress, Rasilvenaira, will be most happy to help you with that.”

The droid pointed to the dark clad woman with a Voorpak on each shoulder and one on her head. Rasilvenaira was already headed over to greet them.

“Hello, I’m Rasilvenaira. Welcome to the adoption fair. Do you have a species in mind yet or did you want to browse and see what catches your eye?”

“I’m Artemis Suoh-Werd'la, thank you. And no species in mind yet,” the half-Sephi female in forest green and brown Inquisitor armor smiled back, a raven perched on her left shoulder. “My wife, Ruana,” she nodded to the Pantoran that had spoken first. “Twin brother, Marius,” she gestured with her head to the nearly identical male with dark blonde hair, who seemed to be staring at someone at the supply station.

-# <@1385116824814878940>

“And the one who’s here for a pet, my younger brother, Rhys,” the Huntress smiled at the eleven year old, who was barely paying attention and seemed to be looking from one animal enclosure to the next. She blinked, then repeated his name a little louder.

The preteen blushed, his startlingly silver eyes turning to the older Human. “I’m sorry, ma'am. Rhys Edraven. Why are the wolves in a cage?”

Artemis sighed quietly, whilst Ruana snickered behind her hand.

Marius still seemed to be watching the supply station.

Vance had been picking out some bowls and was aquiring the pet food, when he felt the hairs on the back of his head just raise slightly. As if someone was watching him.

He turned about looking, then locked eyes with a man staring at him from a distance with pale eyes. He chuckled gave a smirk, wink, and small wave to Marius. He wasn’t sure who they were, but from seeing that they were busy chatting to Rasilvenaira, he didn’t want to cause too much distraction from them acquiring a new pet.

“Well Buttercup, Borage, looks like I’m making friends today.” He chuckled as he turned back the monumentous task of supplies “Let see food bowls, pet food, some toys…toys hmm.” He wasn’t sure what to get them. Wonder if I can ask someone if they would let my pets choose a toy?

Rasilvenaira smiled at the young man, her dark eyes meeting his silver gaze. “The animals, including the wolves, are in pens to keep them safe. It would be quite difficult to keep everyone safe and in one spot without the pens. I’m more concerned with someone accidentally harming one of the animals than I am about my animals harming any visitors. It just helps me keep things more orderly, they are quite comfy, I promise.”

“You are welcome to browse around and see what catches your attention, then we can figure out who ends up choosing you. Unless you have a particular species in mind already that you were wanting?”

Rhys blushed and mumbled a ‘That makes sense’, his shy nature coming to the forefront. Combined with some embarrassment at not having thought of that before he asked.

Marius Edraven had seemingly waved at someone, then turned his attention back to the conversation, a small smirk on his lips. “So long as it isn’t another pet that decides to hide thing from the blind guy, I don’t mind,” Marius joked to his little brother.

Rhys grinned at the reminder, then returned his focus to the woman he had internally deemed ‘pretty, nice lady’. “Thank you, ma'am. I’ve always wanted a feline, but my other choices were deemed…”

As he trailed off, looking toward his older sister and her wife, Artemis chuckled, then explained for the benefit of the older woman. “He tried to adopt, as kittens and pups, a Corellian Sand Panther and a Stroilk. The latter is a sub-species of Anooba borne to cold-weather conditions. As an adult, it would be as tall as my chest,” the Huntress explained, showing that it would be taller than Rhys was currently.

The species themselves were predatory pack-hunters, though there was some debate if they were considered canines or felines.

“They were cute,” Rhys grumbled quietly, as Ruana’s lips twitched. It was clearly a long-standing argument.

Reiden smiled as he saw Rue, proud of Artorias for being brave and a small chuckle at Deus’ complaint and Sorin’s request. He watched and listened as the boys talked with the hybrid, knowing that they were safe. It was fun to see them like this. He made a mental note to try to shuffle things around so he’d be able to spend more time with them.

A beep issued from his comlink so he risked a glance down to his wrist. Seeing that it wasn’t anything important, he silenced it. He saw Shadow approaching as he looked up and nodded to her, then turned toward the hybrid. “It’s good to see you again, Rue. This is Shadow. She and I have been friends for a long time now. And those three are my nephews,” he added proudly. <@244244163002892288>

Rasilvenaira nodded, a knowing smile on her face. “Both are good and loyal pets, but they do require a lot more firm handling than I think you’d be up for at your age. But when you’re older? Come see me again and we’ll see. But for now, I think a Tooka cat would be a good choice for you. They are intelligent and can be easily trained with patience, and treats. They’re also fairly low maintenance, just a regular brushing every couple of days to keep their fur from matting and good food and fresh water every day and they’ll be a wonderful companion.”

She pointed over to the cage holding the kittens, with several napping and others play fighting with each other.

“Shall we go see which one decides to choose you?”

Rhys suddenly beamed. “Absolutely!” He moved forward quickly, almost in a blur as he unintentionally increased his speed with the Force before he stopped beside Rasilvenaira and sheepishly turned back to his eldest sister and the temporary Head of their Family. “May I, Artemis?”

The half-Sephi grinned. “You may, little brother. We’ll catch up at our own pace. And remember, don’t grab the nice lady’s hand without permission. She might react instinctively, thinking it’s an attack.”

The preteen blushed and nodded, physically pivoting to face the Human before he turned on the charm, utilizing the polite behavior he had been taught. “I’m sorry, ma'am. My father, mother and… well, everyone tells me that I have impulse control issues. May I escort you to the Tooka enclosure?”

Marius tried to utilize one of his most unreliable abilities, focused on his little brother and the possible animal he would come to adopt. The most the Sentinel Shadow could discern was that Rhys would adopt a fluffy animal with yellow or green eyes, but nothing more than that.

The very brief glimpse was remarkably unhelpful, as he could not tell whether it had been a feline or canine, due to the lack of clarity.

As such, when he came out of the momentary trance, it was to the realization that his twin sister and her wife were several steps ahead of him and had turned around to face him.

The brighter (indicating her ability to fully harness the Force) of the two to his Force Sight, his sister, he could tell was concerned by the shade of the aura at her center, right above her heart. The latter was how his Force Sense, both of which were almost always active, translated how someone was feeling toward him without searching deeper. Ruana, on the other hand, was slightly more dim in her overall shade, but nowhere near as much as a Non-Force User. She too was concerned.

“I’m alright; wanted to see what he would end up with,” the part-Sephi murmured just loud enough for them to hear.

“Well in any case you two, I will just grab a couple and get you both in the ship and look some more.” Vance finished purchasing all the suplies, bedding, food and toys.Took the two merqaals into his ship and placed them in one of the small rooms. “Now you two can play, my bot helper will keep you company. I will be back soon.”

He then turned to the bb-bot. Roy, tasha’s bot had accompanied and usually sat watching the ship, but today he got to have a bit more fun.“All right Roy, i’m gonna go look at someo-I mean some more animals. I will be back.” He saw Atticus still playing with his merqaal and chuckled before heading towards the tooka pens and the small group of folks looking at them.

The small group made their way to the Tooka pen, their preteen brother and the hostess of this event already there.

The Sentinel Shadow, however, stayed at least five feet away from the enclosure.

His attempt to look into the future had been in the hopes of being forgotten, so he could return to the ship to avoid being ‘adopted’ by another insane animal.

Marius already had a raven that constantly stole anything shiny and placed it in another area. He half-suspected the demented bird was smart enough to know that he was blind in the physical sense and would search forever to find anything.

He would swear the damned raven had cackled with glee after the first time, though he had dismissed the thought almost immediately.

Artemis had claimed that Owain and he had bonded, but Marius absolutely refused to humor this concept. Force Bonds, from what he knew, were simply legends… and tended to be found in cheap romance holos.

Rasilvenaira offered a kind smile to the young man, and nodded, extending her hand. “You may, thank you.”

They walked over to the Tooka enclosure and the kittens all looked up curiously. They’d learned not to rush the door of the cage. Instead, they all sat up, watching and waiting to see what was going on. Rasilvenaira of course was familiar to them. But the boy and the other members of the group were new, and thus, more interesting to them.

Rasilvenaira unlatched the cage door and nodded to Rhys. “Place one hand into the cage, give them a chance to get used to your scent. Then one of them should come up to you, being the one that’s chosen you. Just try to be patient, it may take a few minutes.”

The Seeker slowly and deliberately placed his hand into the cage, smiling gently down at the absolutely adorable kittens.

He was so distracted by the sight and potential of bonding to one that he failed to notice that both his sister and sister-in-law were several steps behind them.

Rhys was focused to the point that, in addition to his scent, he spread his Force Sense and presence toward them. This drew his eldest brother’s attention, but Marius did not make a noise.

Miho looked at Pips from the corner of her eye as Rasilvenaira was called away to help other guests. “What do you think, Pips? You have an opinion on literally everything else.”

<<Oh my yes. Let’s get something that will depend on you to take care of it.>>

The small Odanite shook her head. Why did she ever try talking to the little shoulder gremlin? “Let’s see about the tookas. I think that will be the best option and they’re cute.”

<<Oh, yes. Because cute is what really matters.>>

“Oh shut up.”

She walked up to the tooka enclosure and watched the young man ahead of her. The kittens were, in fact, quite adorable.

Pips gave a soft trill that Miho chose to completely ignore and waited for Ras to finish with her current guest.

The Tooka kittens all peered curiously at the young man, but one in particular seemed drawn to him. She shyly made her way over. Her fur was grey with black stripes along her sides like a grey tiger. She looked up at him and finally as her nose touched the tip of his fingers, her luminous copper-orange eyes met his silver gaze. She look at him with trust and gently rubbed her cheeks along his hand before moving closer so he could pet her. She let out a soft mrow and started purring.

Rasilvenaira watched silently, then smiled when the choice was made. “Congratulations.” Her voice was calm and low so as not to excite the kittens. “She’s chosen you. Now you’ll need to name her, and we have some paper work to finalize the adoption.”

Whilst his twin siblings and sister-in-law smiled at the sight, Rhys seemed in awe as he felt the bond begin to form in the back of his mind. He gently stroked a thumb along her cheek, slowly moving his other hand toward the kitten to scoop her up.

The purring grew louder before he picked the fluffy black and gray kitten up and cradled her against his chest. Another stroke of his thumb against her cheek whilst the kitten looked up at the Seeker made it appear as though she were grinning at him.

“Cheshire,” Rhys whispered, silver locked on copper. “That’s her name.”

Rasilvenaira nodded. “An excellent name. If you’ll come with me, I’ll give you her paperwork. Each baby here has a datapad that contains health information and certifications, pedigrees, standard care sheet, and an adoption certificate that you can put her name on.”

She closed the kittens’ cage then led the way back over to Verlassen’s table, and flipped through the box of datapads until she found the right one. Then she handed it to Rhys. “Congratulations again, if you need or any to get anything for her, we have a supply vendor over there.” She pointed to the table covered with all sorts of pet supplies.

“Enjoy each other and take good care of her. If you ever have a problem, my contact info is in the paperwork.”

Then she headed back over to the Tooka pen where the other woman had been waiting. “Sorry about that, have you decided on the Tooka then? Come closer, and let’s see who chooses you.” <@227653769842655233> She opened the cage again, “Just put your hand in, be patient and still, give them time to get used to you. Then one will choose you and come over to you.”

Miho smiled and knelt down and the entrance of the cage, holding out her hand towards the kittens. “Like this?”

Pips looked over her shoulder, also watching the kittens in the cage as he trilled softly.

“Hush you. You’ll scare them.”

As they waited, a tortoiseshell kitten batted at another kitten, wanting them to play with her, but when that didn’t work, she turned her attention to the hand in the cage. She strolled over, tail high in the air, full of confidence and sniffed Miho’s fingers. Then she climbed on top of her hand and curled up.

“Rasilvenaira chuckled softly. "Seems you have been claimed. She’s a spunky one that one. I think you’ll be a good pairing. What would you like to name her?”

Miho smiled at the kitten in her palm, watching the creature in silence for a moment. She seemed to be made from the leftovers of several other cats. Black and orange and white and even two or three blended in other places.

“I think…Patches.” She traced the lines between colors that were clear, distinct boundaries in some places. “Because it looks like patches on a coat.”

Rasilvenaira smiled, “Yeah she does look like that. A very good name. Go ahead and take her out. We can go finish the adoption while I give you the paperwork on her.”

She closed the cage once Miho had picked up the kitten, she closed the cage, then led the way over to Verlassen’s table to get Patch’s adoption datapad. She handed it to Miho.

“This has her health paperwork, adoption certificate that you can put her name on, pedigree, care sheet, and my contact information if you ever have a question or problem. Enjoy her and take good care of her.”

Rhys was softly speaking to the little Tooka, barely paying the slightest attention to his surroundings. Due to this, Ruana swiftly took up the datapad and adoption certificate, then wrote out the name ‘Cheshire’.

Looking around, the Pantoran realized that her wife had taken the initiative to head over to the supply table to get what was necessary to cover the tiny feline’s basic needs. It took another few moments of looking before the young woman clad in inherited — the original owner of this particular armor had been the adopted grandfather of her father-in-law, though it had long since been refitted for her needs — ARC Trooper armor found her brother-in-law still near the Tooka pen, speaking to male Zeltron.

“C'mon Rhys. Let’s help Artemis gather what the little miss needs. And see what toys she likes,” Ruana smiled, having quickly decided against embarrassing or interrupting Marius.

“Okay. Cheshire, meet your Auntie Ru.”

The Pantoran couldn’t help her grin as wide copper and silver eyes turned her way.

These two made for an adorable pair.

Vance smiled softly to Marius as he neared him. “I thought I caught you star-Oh!” He blushed a deeper pink as he saw that Marius was blind. “My apologies sir, I didn’t realize you were blind. Well I had come over here to also acquire about a tooka kitten, however seems I have found myself a most fascinating person. Name’s Vance.” He extended his right hand near Marius.

The half-Sephi grinned in a mischievous manner, then reached out unerringly to grip the Mercenary’s hand with his own. Whilst the other male was visibly surprised, Marius gently rotated Vance’s hand ninety degrees, then lightly brought it close enough to his lips in an air kiss, head bowed over Vance’s hand. It was much more polite and proper than actually kissing someone’s knuckles.

The most one should do was lightly brush your lips over their skin.

“I’m only blind in the physical sense. One of the few benefits of growing up within a Force Cult was learning how to see from a Miraluka Master… though, that was after they made certain I could see with my other remaining senses,” the Jedi explained smoothly, before he gently released the Zeltron’s hand. “Don’t let me interrupt you if you’re interested in a Tooka, however. My younger brother just adopted one.”

His eyes widened slightly at the gesture, but he didn’t retract. He had seen a few culture greetings and knowing that he was blind it made sense. Vance let his thumb touch the Jedi’s lips a moment before his hand was released. “Ah, that is neat. I am glad then you can actually see me in a sense.” He then chuckled. “Nah you aren’t interrupting, I was just waiting to make sure that I wasn’t interrupting you all. Besides,” He gave a wink to Marius. “Gave me an excuse to come over to talk to ya. But I suppose I should head in to see which if these cuties would have me. By the way, if I may ask before heading in,by what name do I call you?”

It was the half-Sephi’s turn to blush, though this one was due to embarrassment.

“Ah, my apologies. I’m Marius Edraven. And yourself?”

He laughed. “Well I had given it earlier, but shall give it again to such a delightful man as yourself. Vance Whitlock.” He replied giving the blushing Jedi a small bow and grin. “It was a pleasure to make your acquaintance Marius Edraven, quaint name for a wonderful individual. Perhaps I shall meet you again sometime.” His violet eyes gazing at Marius a moment before he turned to enter the holding pen. “Now to see what sweet Tooka will choose me.” He then entered the pens and sat down. Gently he extended his right hand and waited to see what the adorable Tookas would do.

As he walked away to rejoin his family, Marius couldn’t help the smile that returned to his features.

He dutifully ignored the amused smirk his sister-in-law was giving him and set to helping his little brother find a toy or two for the tiny kitten. Meanwhile, Artemis had departed briefly to return to the ship, then came back with a crate to save them a multitude of trips.

“How are we going to convince Xathia that this was all Rhys’ idea?” Ruana mused quietly to her wife, who gave her a beaming smile in return.

“Oh, she’ll easily believe it. Rhys takes after our father far too much. You know of his tendency to loot his targets after he’s carried out a contract?”

The Pantoran gave a slow nod, though she didn’t point out his penchant for stealing anything shiny that caught his eye. She’d been shocked when she found a stash of jewels and jewelry hidden in the Suoh Estate, along with ten thousand credits, all of which were gold.

Thankfully, her mother had been nearby and explained that the cash was their own hidden stash. The jewels and jewelry had been a dubious gift for an exchange of knowledge and experiment notes. Yuki had checked them out and discovered, to her surprise, that none of them had ever been reported stolen.

Unaware of her wife’s musings, Artemis carried on. “He once, after a contract on a mad Alchemist, brought home a genetically altered serpent. He’s had it almost fifteen years and the notes claim that serpent had been with the Alchemist for fifty years since the first experiment on it.”

Ruana stared at the Huntress. “Wait… are you talking about the massive snake whose venom nearly killed Tarvitz?”

“Yep… that’s the one.”

The kittens peered curiously at Vance, but then most went back to napping or playing with their littermates. One, however, continued to stare at him with luminous golden eyes, her flame point markings giving her an almost ethereal look. She let out a very soft mew, then trotted over to Vance and head bumped his hand. She sat down and looked up at him quietly demanding attention.

Rasilvenaira walked over after finishing up the last adoption, and smiled. “You’ve been chosen, she’s quite the special one. Most color points have blue eyes, but she came out with golden eyes, very unique. She’s also not one to be loud, but she’s quite capable of making her wishes known. She wants you to pet her.”

Vance smiled as he felt small prick in his heart while he gently stroked the kitten’s head and back. Her small mew was so precious he had to choke back tears.

“Her fur pattern and eyes are just absolutely gorgeous. If she isn’t named, I would like to call her Fireheart. Since she has set a small blaze in mine.”

Very gently, he picked her up making sure to support her legs and body to keep her comfortable as he held her in his arms a moment. She was warm, her fur soft as he looked at her.

“My little Fireheart.”

Rasilvenaira smiled and nodded approvingly. “Excellent name, and I’m always happy to see a bond start off so strong. She’s definitely yours and you are hers now. If you’d like, we can go finish up the adoption and get her paperwork for you. There’s the adoption certificate where you can put her name, and yours, then there’s her health papers and pedigree, as well as some other useful information. Then the supply vendor can help you with getting anything else you might need or want for her like food and toys. Tookas are quite playful especially while young. So you’ll want a few different toys for her to keep her active.”

Once Vance was out, she closed the pen again and led the way over to Verlassen’s table where she got out the kitten’s datapad and handed it over to him. “My contact info is in there as well, should you ever have a question or a problem with her.”

He grinned as he carried her over to the table and went over the datapad. “Thank you very much. I would love to get an adoption certificate, fill out all paperwork, get her chipped, all her toys and supplies.” He beamed at her. “I am just so happy right now. I have Borage, Buttercup and Fireheart. Speaking of could I also get the three Merqaals adoption certificates as well? I just want to get everything done so Atticus and I can get them all set up with their new home.”

Rasilvenaira nodded, and flipped through the box and pulled out the datapads for the merqaals. “This one is Borage’s. Then this one is Buttercup’s, and this last one is Zinnia’s. Put their names in so you won’t get them confused, although their descriptions are in there with the pedigrees too.”

She smiled and reached over to give Fireheart a small pet on the head. “I’m sure they’ll settle in just fine. You’re off to a good start, they need basic things like fresh food and water but its nothing without love, and these I already know will have plenty of that.”

“Of course they will Rasil, I will see to it that they receive the best care and love.” He smiled while typing in the names for each one, taking care to not mix them up. “There we go all put in. Now we get to finish up, get supplies, toys and get you home Fireheart.” He replied as he scratched the back of her head. Fireheart snuggled in the crook of Vance’s arm and purred softly as He went over all of the long necessary paperwork to adopt them all. To him, they were all worth loving and being part of his family.

After he finished loading the crate of what was needed for his little brother’s Tooka on the ship, Marius Edraven returned to the Supply Station.

He smiled at Rhys, who was now sitting on the ground, off to the side as he spoke to the little Tooka he had adopted. His twin sister and her lifemate were nearby, talking quietly to one another. On a whim, the Jedi reached out with his senses and it brought a brighter smile to his face.

The pair had a Bond, which was developing further even as he watched.

However, extending his senses had a secondary effect. It drew Marius’ gaze away from their current location and, without realizing he was doing so, the Ranger turned and walked in the direction that he had felt the pull from.

When he reached the pen, the Jedi stopped walking and found himself staring at the life energies of a number of tiny beings. Spotting a sign nearby, he ran his fingers over the Braille.

‘Wolf Enclosure’, it read.

‘Why would I be drawn here?’ Marius found himself thinking, even as he kneeled by the edge of the fence.

-# <@142754576863330304>

Rasilvenaira noticed Marius heading over to the wolf pen. She smiled and walked over to stand beside him. “Someone here catch your attention, hm?” She opened the gate to the pen.

“Go in and sit down, and see if one chooses you. Just be patient, let them come to you.”

“It was more of a… tugging or pull on my senses, actually,” the Jedi mildly corrected as he leaned his Electro-staff against the sign. Then, a moment later, Marius followed the Human into the pen, then instinctively fell into a meditative, resting pose on his knees.

He reached out a hand to let the Wolf cubs access his scent, smiling as several more daring or curious ones came forward at once to meet this new person.

The pups bounced around roughhousing and playing with one another. When Marius settled down near them, then peered at him curiously, some shied away from the unfamiliar scent. But one pup, a grey male with the start of a red ruff around his neck stood up and watched Marius for a long moment. Then he came closer, tail up showing his confidence. His ears pricked forward listening as he watched the man. Slowly, he moved closer until his nose touched Marius’ outstretched hand. With a playful growl, he mouthed Marius’ hand and then pounced at him, wanting him to play.

Rasilvenaira watched, smiling her knowing smile. “You’ve been chosen. You’ll need to find his name now.”

Marius grinned at the cub’s behavior, which reminded the half-Sephi a fair bit of himself. He would always wait, observe and react to his surroundings, which was deeply ingrained.

Before he learned to see the world in a manner similar to a Miraluka, the former Force Cultist had been forced to learn to see using his other remaining senses. It was both a benefit and curse of being born physically blind. Even to this day, the Ranger relied on those senses to perceive his environment, even if his Force Sight couldn’t be fooled.

Whilst he pondered this and played with the playful cub, he absently replied to Rasilvenaira’s comment. “I think I’ll call him… Garm.”

Rasilvenaira nodded, “That sounds like a fine name for him. He seems to approve. Come, we’ll get you settled with his paperwork, and don’t worry. The datapad is equipped for accessibility. You aren’t the first sight challenged customer I’ve had. But it contains all the important things you’ll need for him. Health papers, adoption certificate, pedigree, my contact information should you ever have questions about him. Then you can visit the supply vendor for at least a collar and leash until your bond grows stronger when you wont need it.”

“That sounds perfect, thank you. I really do appreciate that, since I’m limited to Braille as a written language, since I can feel it out. Would you mind terribly if I asked you to write or type his name onto the adoption certificate?” Marius asked as he gently scooped up the mainly gray wolf cub, then lightly tickled the stomach of the newly named Garm.

The baby wolf squirmed, then bit down on the Jedi’s finger as he ‘caught’ it.

Internally, Marius was glad he could heal small wounds in almost no time. Those little teeth were sharp.

Vance had finished up getting the supplies, food bowls, toys for both Meerqaal and Tooka, and placed everything into the ship.

The Meerqaals were already in, except the one Atticus had been playing with in the pens.

Grinning, Vance went back with Fireheart on his shoulder. He brought her to the supply station and looked at all the different collars.

“Which one will it be Fireheart?”

He picked out a sapphire blue and purple, a red and black, and a dark forest green and black collars. Then he set Fireheart in front of them to pick her collar. As she sniffed at the different collars, she began to paw at the blue and purple one.

“Perfect, lets get all three and the nametags.”

He then purchased all three collars and the nametags for each of his pets. Gently and carefully, he placed the blue and purple collar around Fireheart’s neck and lifted her up. The nametag rested against her fur as she let out a loud yawn and began to make biscuits in the crook of his arm. Vance then lifted her up to his face and rubbed his nose against hers while grinning.

“Thank you for choosing me Fireheart. I promise that I will give you one of the best loving homes in the galaxy.”

He then waved to Rasil, Rue, and the rest of the visitors still around.

“Thank you so much, I hope that many more will get adopted!”

His face broke into a wide grin as he hugged his new family member. He then motioned for Atticus to follow him into the ship. His steps light and happy as he pranced to his ship.

“Let’s all go home.”

Atticus turned, smiling as he held his new friend close. It had been a very nice evening. He was happy to have a new companion to accompany him in his new life. He had already gotten a few new acquaintances in his short time in this neck of the galaxy.

Every day was a bit of a new journey. Every experience was new and refreshing. Each was proving to be increasingly memorable. He started towards the ship. He pondered what would be next for him, and what else awaited him in this great, wonderful new world.

“Mistress,” Rue greeted, though he’d opened his mouth to start rambling about plants. He swept into a neat curtsey that used his tail to lift his skirts properly without tilting Sorin at all, the child secure in his arm. “Yes, this one is Rue and I have been truly and utterly blessed to meet your children. It is my great honor and joy.” While to some the words might have seemed an exaggeration, too flowery, from him they radiated genuineness and delight, the happiness shining in his features and literally gilding his skin all too evident.

Reiden’s approach served to ease some of the hybrid’s formal posture to the matron, and he chirruped in his typical fashion, crying happily, “Friend Reiden! Yes! It is so good to see you again as well. I am so proud to meet your nephews at last.” He looked back to the boys, informing them with utmost seriousness, “Your uncle speaks of you all of the time. You are so very loved and wonderful and brilliant. Thank you for meeting me. I would love to be also your friends and talk to you of botanicals, which is indeed plants, very good, yes, or anything else.”
