Lyna'vel sat in the middle of the lounge room floor playing with a small doll replica of Attifer, complete with a white blindfold around her eyes.
“I must go save the world and hug everyone!” Lyna'vel pretended as she walked the doll off to a small holoprojection of the galaxy near her bright pink dollhouse.
Tasha chuckled. “That would def. be how I remember Atty. How I wish little one, I could just take you over to meet her, but things just..” she sighed. “Are so busy and with finding Corn'eria…” Her face displayed uncertainty as she looked at her sweet daughter still playing. “I can’t have you here, if Rath gets wind that one of Sadows best soldiers has a daughter. I know how evil people really are to innocent ones. I need to get you to safety again.” As the words came out, the weight, sadness and thought of being torn again from her daughter brought tears to her eyes. Lyna'vel looked up.
“Mom, are you okay? Did you need a hug?”
Tasha'vel gave her a smile. “That would be wonderful sweetheart. Mommy definitely needs a lot of hugs today.” She replied opening her arms to Lyna'vel, who ran without question, hugging her tightly.
“You know that pretty amazing purple person you met with Jelly, I am gonna make a phonecall to him. See mommy’s being called again to help save people and I will need you to be with someone who will keep you safe till I am able to get you again. Rue is a friend and a very nice guy.”
“Yay Rue! How long will you been gone mommy?”
Tasha’s heart sank.
“I don’t know, Lyna. However long mommy’s bosses tell her. As much as I wish to stay, if I don’t then people will be in danger. I love you so much my little lilly.
I will do my best to keep you and everyone else that I can safe. So until I get back, you be good and behave for Rue and whoever is keeping you safe, got it? No pranking during war time.”
Lyna'vel nodded seeing her mother’s serious face as she turned on her wrist communicator.
Dialing Rue’s personal comm she waited.
“Hullo, yes? Hullo?” came the answer shortly from the communicator. “Hullo, how can this one help, this is Rue, who is this if it may ask kindly thank you?”
“Oh heaven’s forgive me, It is Tasha'vel Versea, Lyna'vel’s mother. I have heard such wonderful and delightful tales about you Rue and I kind of have a big favor to ask of you.
As you may have heard, there was a call for the clans to assemble and unfortunately that includes me. ”
As she spoke, Tasha’s voice started to waver a bit as she was holding back her tears, trying not to cry in front of her daughter.
“At this time, I fear for her safety and while Jelc and Salni do well to keep her protected, I do not know what our enemy is fully capable of doing. I-” She could feel hot tears collecting as her emerald eyes welled up. Hot stinging tears, rolled down her azure cheeks as she patted lyna'vel. “I’ll be right back sweetheart. Mommy needs a tissue.”
She kissed her daughter’s forehead and walked into another room, grabbing a box of tissues from the counter and wiped her eyes.
“Heh, sorry about that Rue, yes I fear for my daughter’s safety and want to keep her away from danger Rue. I know so many of us will be going, but if it’s one person I have known in Arcona it is Attifer and she has always cared about the safety and well being of everyone.
You have shown this same sweet kindness to my daughter and she trusts you.
So Rue, if you could take my daughter to safety and keep her until the war is over, I would be most relieved and greatful.
I hate doing this, but it is what I believe is the best thing for her.”
“Oh, Mistress Tasha'Vel, please, no apologies are necessary for the grief in your heart. This one knows it only too well to lose a child. Over and over. If this one can do anything to ease that pain it would, and it should be honored to be trusted with little Lynna. It will keep her safe, it– I swear it.”
In the holo, Rue straightened up, proper and unwavering despite his slim frame. He was not violent, but when they had met briefly Tasha had sensed in him one of the strongest wellsprings of the Light she has yet to encounter even in the Brotherhood.
“I shall protect her with this life. And see that she is happy. She can join Sulla and Lektra and this one. Already Zeva will be staying also. So to the litluns it will be very busy and hopefully with all their friends they will worry not so for their parents…”
Tasha'vel smiled softly.
“Well having others her age is good for her socialization and yes perhaps it will help keep their minds off a little bit from missing us. Thank you Rue, it means so much to know she will be safe. I will have Jelc send off with her tonight over to your place as soon as I have the coords. Thank you again Rue.”
Though her heart was pained, she felt better knowing that Lyna'vel would be safe and with other kids that she could bond and grow close with. She walked back into the room with Lynavel and smiled. “So I have some news, Rue is gonna be watching you for a bit and guess what not only you but your friends as well. It will be like a big slumber party. So my little one I need you to back at least 12days of clothes, at least 3pairs of shoes, whatever you want to take to play with your friends and have them ready. Jelc will be taking you over to Rue tonight dear.”
“Tonight!” Her eyes lit up as she immedately dashed off to prepare. Tasha turned back to Rue. “Well she will definately be ready. Jelc will see you tonoght then Rue. Also whatever you need to spend on her and her friends I will have it put on my credit.”
“Of course, Mistress.” The Jedi bowed, and was smiling for Lynna’s excitement, though his holographic eyes betrayed pain for Tasha. “Would you like this one to keep up any lessons for Mistress Lynna? Lektra and Sulla are in the school right now but I do not believe enrollment would be possible within twelve days effectively. This one is very accomplished in many subjects though and could tutor her as it does Sulla with her mathematics and such. Also does she have any allergies or special dietary or health needs…” He continued to rattle off questions.
“No, that would be quite difficult to enroll them all.” She smiled. “Ah yes Math would be great for her to have a tutor as she despises it. Botany, science, language, reading also are good.
Allergies thankfully no, as for Twi'lek we are primarily omnivores and have multiple stomachs to digest just about anything, so as long she has food, there is nothing to worry about Rue.” She stood there thinking a moment. “Oh right, I will have Jelc deliver this as it is precious, it’s a music box with a small twi'lek ballerina. It plays my grandfather’s lullaby. I play it for her every night as my grandfather played it to me. In times she is difficult, it can calm her.” She replied feeling tears again as she whispered “Please take good care of it, it is special to me.” She felt as if her heart was breaking, as if she was losing a part of herself that it was somehow in the box as well. She could hear the familiar steps of Jelc entering. “My lady.” He bowed softly. “I have everything ready for Lyna’s departure.”
“Here is my stuff Jelly!” She replied happily as she dragged a large suitcase to Jelc. “All my clothes, hygenic items, and a couple stuffies.
"Ooh! Iet me get the dollhouse with my djb dollies, Sulla, Zeva and Lecktra might know some of them.” She quickly picked up her dolls and placed them into the dollhouse, closing it carefully she then picked it up by the handle and stagger carried it to Jelc. “That should be it.” She smiled as she hugged her mother. “I love you mom, I know you and Ro tahn will beat the bad guys. Then we can all go on a big picnic!”
Tasha held her daughter tight, running her hands gently down her lekku and to her cheeks as she bent down trying again not to cry. “Yes, my sweet Lynna. We will beat them and everyone will go on a really nice picnic. I promise, my dear. Now you wait till Jelc is ready for you, okay.”
“Okay, momma. ”
Jelc had finished loading up lynna’s stuff and came back. He wiped his brow with a handkerchief from his pocket.
“Anything else?”
“Yes, the music box. Please keep it safe as it goes to Rue for keeping. He will need it for soothing.”
Jelc nodded and bowed, taking the music box carefully as if it were extremely fragile.
“As you wish my lady, I shall be sure that no harm comes to it.”
“Thank you.” She smiled sadly as it left her arms, a sorrowful flashback of her grandfather’s spirit dissipating and his last words.
“I am proud of you, Tashabear. You are my little warrior.”
“I know grandpapa.” She wiped the rolling tears from her face before turning back to Rue. “So sorry about that, was there anything else you needed Rue?”
“No need to apologize at all, Mistress!” If anything the hybrid seemed emotional himself, openly crying as well. “You are so very loved and blessed with such a healthy family. This one will keep them safe and well. All of them. And return the dollies and the music box and Sir Jelc and Lynna'Vel to you.”
“Thank you Rue from the bottom of my heart. I will go ahead and send Jelc out, feel free to send him the coordinates. They are ready. Have a wonderful day my friend.” She smiled as she closed her communicator. She then turned to Jelc and Lyna'vel, now beside him. “My dear sweet Lyna'vel, the time has come. I love you my dearest daughter, I will do what I can to return soon.” She then walked over and hugged her daughter tightly, tears falling. “Obey Rue, follow the rules, be kind and good to those around you. Just as mommy has shown you.” She took a breath in and turned to Jelc. “Keep her safe, may your travel be swift and her delivered safely into Rue’s arms.” She then patted his shoulder. “Go now.” She then turned away as Jelc took lyna'vel’s hand. “Let’s go see Rue.” With sadness, Lyna'vel waved to her mother. “Goodbye mom, please come home soon.” She then followed Jelc into the ship and headed toward Arcona Space. With a heavy heart, Tasha watched the ship fly upwards until it disappeared into space. “I promise Lyna, I will return.”
Several Hours Later in Arcona Space
Lyna’vel was fast asleep when they arrived at the location Rue had sent out to him. Setting down, Jelc landed the ship. As he opened the doors, he saw Rue standing there waiting patiently. Gently, Jelc lifted the sleeping blue Twi’lek youngling in his arms and carried her over to Rue. “She was great the entire flight, just tired out from the emotional separation from her mother. I know she is in good hands. Thank you Rue, I will get her stuff and place it into the vehicle.”
